This workshop will include techniques to accommodate limitations imposed by injuries, structure, body type, strength, and flexibility. Smart Yoga offers an explanation of the Alexander Technique’s approach to posture and movement, suggestions for altering faulty breathing patterns, and information about how Hatha Yoga, Patanjali, and Buddhist insight practices relate to the Alexander Technique.

INTRODUCTION TO ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE
This workshop will cover the basic principles of the Alexander Technique from a practical perspective. We will look at how participants use their bodies in sitting, standing and walking. We will also look at activities with which people may have particular difficulties such as working at a keyboard, writing, playing an instrument or a whole range of everyday activities. By the end of the morning, you will have an understanding of the basics of the Alexander Technique and how you can use it to improve your performance and prevent discomfort and injury in everyday activities.
After completing the introduction to Alexander Technique workshop in the morning you have the option of attending the afternoon workshop focusing on the application of the Alexander Technique to yoga. Please note, if you have not had previous Alexander Technique private lessons you need to complete the morning workshop, An Introduction to the Alexander Technique, in order to register for the afternoon session.
Yoga is a wonderful tool for cultivating resilience and balance in our whole selves. The Alexander Technique helps you to discover how your movement habits affect your life, and helps you to develop better movement and posture. When we bring these two disciplines together, we can find ways to move through all activities of everyday life with greater ease.
This workshop will explore how the basic principles of the Alexander Technique can be applied to eliminate excess tension in the body, maximizing the benefits of your yoga practice. In Alexander Yoga, emphasis is placed on identifying habitual movement patterns that inhibit easy movement, and learning to move in a ways that bring your whole body into better coordination. By the end of this afternoon workshop, you will have an understanding of how Alexander Technique can be applied to increase ease and minimize strain in yoga practice, making it possible to develop greater ease in the whole body as you continue to move through your everyday activities.
